MONROE - Less than three years after his sixth drunk driving conviction, a Brodhead man was arrested on his seventh offense after a traffic accident late Friday, Oct. 5.

Shawn A. Wahler, 44, faces a felony charge of driving while intoxicated. He's also charged with misdemeanor bail jumping since he's still on extended supervision from the June 2010 convictions for his fifth and sixth DWI offenses.

According to police:

Officers were dispatched at 11:05 p.m. to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Wisconsin 69 and 8th Street.

Wahler had collided with a vehicle driven by Samantha A. Ralston, 20, Baldwin, Iowa.

A passenger in Raston's vehicle, Whitney M. Clasen, 22, Albany, was transported by EMS to Monroe Clinic's ER for non-life-threatening injuries.

Raston was cited for failure to yield right-of-way and driving without proof of vehicle insurance.

The vehicles were moderately damaged and towed from the scene by Don's Towing.

Wahler was jailed. After his initial appearance in court Monday, he signed a cash bond of $1,000 and a signature bond of $9,000.

Court records indicate Wahler was arrested on his fourth DWI in January 2005 in Brodhead with a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.221 percent. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail.

For his fifth and sixth offenses, in December 2009 and April 2010, he was sentenced to prison with extended supervision by Judge Thomas Vale.

His preliminary hearing before Judge James Beer is Oct. 23.
