UPDATE AT BOTTOM

BROOKLYN - The Village of Brooklyn has a new polling location running for today's state primary election. As of 9:30 a.m., the polling location for the rest of the day is 102 Windy Lane. The Village is petitioning the Court to remain open an additional 90 minutes to compensate for the move from the original polling location.

Earlier in the day, polling had to be shut down and access to the Community Building (102 North Rutland Avenue) by the Dane County Sheriff's Office for safety reasons due to an ongoing threat.

"Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett has informed me that the incident has been resolved and a man has been arrested for a disturbance," Dane County Clerk Scott McDonnell said. "The Village will state at its current location on Windy Lane and not move again today."

The Village petitioned the court for extended polling time for the voters who were denied access during the move.

According to a press release from the Green County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 7:10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, Green County deputies responded to a disturbance in the downtown area of the Village of Brooklyn and were notified shortly thereafter that a shot had been fired by an individual involved in the disturbance. Upon their arrival, deputies locked down the area and specialized units, along with members of the Dane County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.

The individual suspected of being involved in the disturbance and of firing the shot was located about 2 1/2 hours later in the Village of Oregon and taken into custody. The suspect, a 75-year-old Brooklyn resident, was transported to the Green County Jail on a charge of Disorderly Conduct while Armed.

The area is secure. Brooklyn streets are now open and detectives remain in the area to complete their investigation into the incident. The Village of Brooklyn polling location will remain in place at the Public Works Department for the remainder of the day. There is no indication that the incident is related to any polling activity.

Additional details will likely be relayed later in the day, Green County Sheriff Jeff Skatrud said in a statement.
