Amy Hagen, a veterinarian at the Monroe Veterinary Service, has two best friends - Pudge, an 8-year-old Labrador mix, and Lizzie, an 11-year-old beagle mix.
Hagen adopted Lizzie almost 10 years ago from the Green County Humane Society. She had gone a couple of times to look at dogs and when she met Lizzie she fell in love.
Pudge was 6 weeks old when she was brought to the clinic with broken bones that she sustained somehow after she wandered away from her litter out in the country. Pudge needed medical care, and Hagen decided to take care of her until she could find another home for her but ended up growing attached to her.
Hagen, who is originally from the Milwaukee area, has lived in Monroe for 10 years.

Describe your dogs' personalities.
Pudge would like to be touching someone all day long. She's a social butterfly, but she's also nice and mellow. I call her a brat, but she's patient and has had to deal with some chronic pain issues.
Lizzie is very food-motivated. I call her my squirrel. She's willing to snuggle once and awhile. She wishes to be obedient, but she'll run away from me sometimes and she'll wag her tail and look back at me like "I'm so glad you're on this adventure with me," and she'll continue running. She's very sincere. She'll look at you with those big beautiful eyes and hope you understand what she's trying to say.
What are some of your favorite activities to do together?
We love walks and hikes. We go to New Glarus Woods or to Porcupine Mountains in upper Michigan. They don't like staying home when I'm gone so they come to work with me everyday. We like to walk to work when we can. We like family nap times and cooking time. They're always sure I'm going to drop something on the floor.
What has it been like having Pudge and Lizzie in your life?
They're my buddies. They're always in a good mood, and they're always happy to be there for me. If anyone doesn't have a dog, they should.
