MONROE - There will be a boot scootin' shindig when Main Street Monroe brings some southern charm to downtown Monroe for the next Concert on the Square on July 27.
Back Country Roads starts the party at 6:30 p.m. with plenty of current country hits ("My Church" by Maren Morris) plus classic favorites ("Jackson" by Johnny Cash and June Carter), along with a touch of rock and roll ("Sweet Child of Mine" by Guns N' Roses). The band is a returning favorite at Country Thunder and has opened for national touring acts.
Concertgoers are encouraged to share in the country vibe by wearing blue jeans, cowboy hats and boots, plaid shirts or their favorite country band T-shirt. Free commemorative Main Street Monroe bandannas will be given to the first 150 attendees.
Are you ready to "Jump Around"? The evening's special intermission entertainment comes directly from Camp Randall Stadium: Students from the University Wisconsin marching band will be bringing their Fifth Quarter performance to Main Street Monroe. The John and Katie Baumann Inspiration Project provides funding for concert intermissions and other activities throughout the season.
Main Street Monroe's featured nonprofit for the evening is Literacy Council of Green County. The organization coordinates opportunities for anyone wishing to improve skills in reading, writing, and speaking English.
Main Street Monroe will also recognize the 2017 "Once Upon A Square" summer sponsors with the storybook theme that continues all summer.
The Main Street Beverage Garden offers a selection of beer, including local brews, plus there is wine at the wine stand.
Concertgoers can enter for a chance to win the "Best Seat in the House" contest with premium seating on custom Adirondack chairs from Wooden Trooper, plus refreshments and swag. Sign up all summer at Heartland Graphics; winners are drawn before each show.
Upcoming concert dates are Aug. 11 (Cookie and the Real Deal), and Aug. 24 (Corey Cox). For the latest updates follow "Downtown Monroe Events and News" on Facebook or visit the web site mainstreetmonroe.org.
Concert attendees are asked to make use of the trash cans and recycling stations in the area and to pick up after themselves. Also, volunteers are needed to help with cleanup or setup duties. For details, contact Main Street Monroe director Jordan Nordby at 608-328-4023 or monroemainstreet@tds.net.
