DARLINGTON — The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center was notified of an ATV crash with injuries that occurred in the 13000 block of County Road Z, in the Town of Darlington just before 2 p.m. March 21. 

The investigation of the crash has shown that the ATV, a Polaris Scrambler,  was being operated by Alan W. Meckley, 43 of rural Darlington, was traveling westbound on County Z. It appeared that Meckley lost control of the ATV, crossed over the eastbound lane of traffic, entered the south ditch line, struck a fence and then a utility pole. 

Meckley was deceased upon arrival of first responders.  He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Lafayette County Sheriff’s Deputies, Darlington Police Department, and Darlington Fire Department and Green County EMS Darlington were dispatched. 

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Wardens responded and took over the investigation of the crash with the assistance of Lafayette County Deputies. Wardens and deputies were assisted at the scene by the Darlington Police Department, Darlington Fire Department and the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office.
