MONROE - Local people looking to gain further education have an opportunity to earn an MBA without leaving Monroe.

Monroe Clinic, through a partnership with Edgewood College in Madison, is offering MBA (Masters of Business Administration) coursework in Monroe. Twenty people are needed to get the program started, said Gail Eiserman, talent sourcing specialist at Monroe Clinic.

Monroe Clinic offered two informational sessions for the public about the MBA program Tuesday. The sessions were well-attended, and because a number of Monroe Clinic employees are interested, Eiserman is optimistic the minimum will be met.

Eiserman said it's too early to say when the classes will meet in Monroe, but it appears they will be every other week in the evening.

The MBA program is designed to "prepare students for careers in management and administration. It is especially useful to mid-career professionals who are pursuing careers in management and to those who recently have completed undergraduate programs and wish to accelerate their careers with a focus on business skills," according to Edgewood's Web site.

To be admitted to the MBA program, students need a baccalaureate degree (or its equivalent) with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale is required for admission on a "regular status," and earn a score of at least 425 on the GMAT. They also must provide two letters of recommendations and write a short personal statement about why they are interested in the program.

The total number of graduate credits needed depends on a student's educational background. Tuition costs $655 per credit hour.

More information about Edgewood's MBA program, including a catalogue of coursework, is available online at www.edgewood.edu.
