MONROE - The Monroe Arts Center will present the touring production of "Deer Camp the Musical" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, in the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center, 1600 26th St., Monroe.
The show follows four Minnesota deer hunters - Digger, Diesel, Doogski and Moose - on their annual trek to deer camp. After decades of hunting trips, they have yet to bring home a single deer and the wives are getting suspicious. They need to show their wives that they are the mighty hunters they claim to be. This is not so easy when the thought of drinking beer and hanging out in the deer shack is more appealing than freezing in a deer stand. With songs like "Mighty Hunters," "She's Playing Bingo" and "Coupon Clippin' Ladies," the guys hatch a plan to save their hunting paradise without ever firing a shot.
All four cast members are veterans of the stage, screen, and television. Tony Papenfuss (Doogski) is well known for his television role as "My brother Darryl" for eight seasons on the CBS hit sitcom "Newhart." He has appeared at numerous theaters across the US. His film credits include "Sweetland," "Factotem" and "Into Temptation." On television, he was seen on "Murphy Brown," "Coach," "Star Trek Deep Space 9," "Roswell," "Providence," and "Seinfeld."
John Voldstad (Digger) is best remembered for his role as "My other brother Darryl" on "Newhart." He is a nearly 40-year veteran of television commercials, TV, film and theater. His TV credits include guest star and recurring roles on "Coach," "Home Improvement," and "Beverly Hills 90210." His most notable film credits are "Forrest Gump," "Ghostbusters," "Stripes," and "1941."
John Kunik (Diesel) is a fixture in the Minnesota theater scene, acting and directing in the Twin Cities for more than 30 years. He has appeared with the Minneapolis Children's Theatre, the Guthrie Theatre, Park Square, Troupe America, Theatre in the Round and others. As a stand-up comic, he has been featured at the Los Angeles, the Carolinas, Kansas City, and Las Vegas comedy festivals.
Anthony Zadra (Moose) has been a Twin Cities actor for almost 15 years. His long list of commercial work includes Sears, StarzHD, and Red Robin. In film, he has appeared in "Herman U.S.A." and the Swahili language film, "Bongoland."
