8th Street Update: Crews to close 8th Street overnight
Placeholder Image
Construction crews continued to make progress last week with topsoil placement along the south side of 8th Street. This work was slowed due to rain making the topsoil unworkable at various points throughout the week. We also had a shorter week as no work happened on July 4 so everybody could enjoy the holiday.

With topsoil placement 95 percent complete, the contractor had planned on having seeding, fertilizing, and erosion mat work starting on Monday. Overnight rains have pushed the start of this site restoration work until today, July 11, with this continuing through Wednesday. The switch to the stage 2 traffic pattern in now scheduled for Wednesday.

Once the traffic switch is completed there will be nighttime work to complete necessary storm sewer and sanitary sewer improvements. Night-time work is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday night.

During this time, 8th Street will be closed from Wisconsin 69 to 7th Street from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The night-time closure allows the work to be completed safely and efficiently while minimizing disruption to the many businesses and residents. All of the businesses will have access during the 8th Street closure, but it will be from north and south side roads. If the dates change for this work we will send an update as soon as we know the new schedule.
