The following cancellations, closings and postponements were
received by the Monroe Times. Before attending any event, it is recommended to
reach out to the venue or organization to make sure it is still being held.
Behring Senior Center
In the best interest of the overall wellness for our community and for each other, the Behring Senior Center will be temporarily closed from Wednesday, March 18 through Monday, April 6 at which time we will reevaluate the situation. We have decided to close to do our part in the social distancing that may help protect our community from the further spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). There has been no known incidence of COVID-19 at the Behring Senior Center, and we want to keep it that way.
During this period, all scheduled programs and classes will be cancelled or rescheduled, and refunds will be issued for the programs that cannot be rescheduled. Wellness Center memberships will be extended for three weeks. Exercise classes will also be extended for three weeks, and the next session will start three weeks later than originally scheduled.
The Green County Nutrition Site will be contacting the regular diners to make alternate plans for meals.
Attica Cemetery Association
The March meeting of the Attica Cemetery Association has been canceled and will be reschedule for t the end of April.
Green County Family YMCA
The Green County YMCA will close the facility completely beginning at 4 p.m. Monday, March 16 until further notice.
Green County Veteran’s Park dinner, dance
The event has been canceled.
Monroe High School
All district events are canceled until April 6.
Brodhead Chamber of Commerce
The March Membership Meeting of the Brodhead Chamber of Commerce has been canceled due to coronavirus concerns. The meeting will be rescheduled as soon as it is safe to do so.
SARP
The Dance Back the Night event March 28 is canceled and What You Were Wearing event slated for April is also postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.
Monroe Arts Center
All public events are canceled through the end of April. At this time, officials are working to reschedule shows, find creative ways to present other events and seek ways to continue to serve the community. As we work through a tremendous amount of details here in the office, please know that we will be in contact with you very soon if you are directly affected by this closing. Currently the Galleries and Offices remain open. That said, this is a fluid and quickly changing situation. If circumstances warrant, we will close the building entirely and our staff will begin to work from home. Please check social media and the website for the latest information.
Monroe Public Library
The Monroe Public Library will close at 5 p.m. March 16 and will be closed until further notice. Their timeline is to match the closure of the School District of Monroe.
AARP Tax Foundation
AARP Foundation-Tax Aide has suspended services until further notice. They will continue to assess when to reopen again in some or all sites for the remainder of the tax season and if the tax season is extended. Visit the online site locator tool aarpfoundation.org/taxhelp for the most up to date information, including site re-openings. Do not call ADRC for updates or appointments at this time.
Green County Humane Society
With the news about coronavirus (COVID-19) changing rapidly, Green County Humane Society is taking precautions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community. Beginning March 15, all animal adoptions will be by appointment only. Animal viewing areas will be closed to the public and volunteers until at least Wednesday, April 1.
GCHS has also postponed its April 11 open house/Easter egg hunt. The open house will be rescheduled for a future date.

Monroe Chamber of Commerce
The 2020 State Line Home and Business Expo that was planned for April 4-5 has been canceled.
We understand the financial impact that this can have on a business and we are currently working on a way to promote the businesses and organizations that had planned to take part in the Expo. Please be patient as we work out the details. We understand many elements are uncertain at this time and we appreciate your patience as we create an opportunity for you to be featured through the Monroe Chamber of Commerce. Vendors who have paid their expo fees will have their payment returned in full.
Monroe Clinic
Patients will be contacted if it is determined their appointment needs to be postponed as a preventative measure. Monroe Clinic has updated its visitor policy. Only one visitor per patient is allowed on campus at a time. Patients in the Intensive Care Unit and Family Birth Center require that the single visitor be designated to one person (not rotating visitors). All visitors must be in good health (no signs of a respiratory infection, such as a fever, cough, shortness of breath or sore throat) and must be 16 or older.
In order to practice social distancing, effective immediately, the cafeteria and gift shop are closed to the public until further notice. Hospital patients and their visitor may still order room service. All classes, events and support groups are also canceled effective immediately through April 3. This also includes the volunteer services program. Updates will be provided closer to April 3 with more information.

Monroe Theatre Guild
The Monroe Theatre Guild has canceled the second weekend performances of “The Lady Vanishes.” For anyone with tickets to the show the MTG office will be in touch with you by either phone or email before the weekend.
Blackhawk Technical College
To be proactive and to help slow the spread of the virus, Blackhawk Technical college is minimizing operations on campus. The college will be suspending classes on Monday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 17. Meaning, no student attendance and no requirement to be in online classes. All employees will continue to report to work. (The College is currently on spring break)
All students should monitor Blackboard for specific class and lab instructions from faculty, and should regularly check their Blackhawk email for College updates. College employees should monitor their email for updates regarding operations. Effective Wednesday, March 18 through Friday, March 27, all face-to-face and lecture courses will be moved online. That means, there will only be online attendance for coursework during this time. Labs and clinicals will be determined by each program. Updates will be sent on Tuesday, March 17 via Blackboard and College email.
All campus locations will remain open for essential support services during this time. Effective immediately, any College out-of-state travel has been suspended. In-state-travel is at the discretion of the employee and supervisor. Travel will not be required at this time. College leaders will continue to closely monitor the situation and will communicate with students and employees via Blackhawk email. Updates will also be shared on the College website www.blackhawk.edu.
The Blackhawk Technical College District Board meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 18 at the Monroe Campus has been moved to Central Campus in Janesville. The College is currently practicing social distancing and this change will help limit the travel of Board Members and College personnel.
District Board members can choose to attend the March Board meeting via face-to-face, by phone, or through Zoom. While the decision for Board Members to use technology or attend in-person is a personal decision, we urge anyone not feeling well or having been in recent contact with someone exhibiting virus/flu symptoms to attend via technology. Meeting times remain the same: Finance Committee at 4:30 p.m. and full Board at 5:00 p.m.
Highland Community College
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Highland Community College is extending spring break to March 27. While there are no known cases at Highland, the college is taking steps to proactively reduce risk of exposure. Online services will continue as usual. Campus events and Lifelong Learning from March 16 to April 12 are postponed or canceled. Athletics are paused until March 30, at which time Highland will replace face-to-face courses with alternative methods thru April 12. Visit highland.edu/hcc-advisory for more information.
First National Bank
The lobby service is temporarily suspended at all locations, including Gratiot and Darlington, beginning March 18 through April 4. They will continue to monitor the situation and adjust precautions as needed. The following services are still available: drive-up banking, walk-up banking, online banking, mobile banking, ATM locations, night deposit and telephone banking. Zion/Oakley United Methodist Church
Due to the restrictions set in place surrounding the Coronavirus, the church has made the decision to suspend services along with the program "Come to the Cross and Remember" for this season to help keep guests safe. Mark your calendars to watch for performance dates for Easter 2021.
Fowler Dental Clinic
To limit the spread of COVID-19, the Fowler Dental Clinic is cancelling all non-emergency treatment until April 6. They will continue to monitor public health recommendations and may extended this date as needed. After this initial wave of COVID-19 we will resume scheduling non-emergency appointments. We remain confident in our ability to provide dental care in a safe and healthy environment at the Fowler Dental Clinic and out of an abundance of caution we will then continue with the following additional precautions and recommendations to our patients and team members in light of COVID-19.
