MONROE — Beloit pianist David Newman will perform a diverse program of compositions by Ludwig van Beethoven and Modest Mussorgsky at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 at the Monroe Arts Center. This is the first of four concerts in Monroe Arts Center’s 2019-20 Sunday Concert Series. The concert takes place at MAC’s Gunderson Stiles Concert Hall, 1315 11th St.
Playing with extraordinary technical mastery and sensitivity, David Newman draws-in and transports listeners into the world of the composer.
Newman made his New York City Lincoln Center debut in 1990. Other notable appearances include solo recitals at London’s Barbican Centre, Chicago’s Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series, as well as performances at numerous colleges and universities throughout the U.S. and abroad.
Newman’s work in theater is also extensive. Most notably, his recordings of Rachmaninoff were used in Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theater’s production of “Another Time.” A video recording of this piano piece was studied by actor Albert Finney, enabling him to imitate Newman’s style of playing on stage.
Locally, Newman has had the opportunity to play with many orchestras and chamber groups, including the Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra and the Beloit Janesville Symphony.
Monroe Arts Center members may attend this concert for free.
