MONROE — Two wheels or four, all are welcome to join the Wags ’n Wheels Poker Run on Saturday, July 6 to benefit the Green County Humane Society.

Vehicles will depart at 11 a.m. from Junction House north of Monroe to travel the scenic countryside through Green, Lafayette, Iowa and Dane counties, making five stops along the way to collect playing cards in a quest to create a winning poker hand. Each stop will also include raffles, prizes and other fun.

The ride ends with a party back at Junction House with a cookout-style meal and music by local classic-rock band “The Unusuals.”

In addition to the music and dinner, each participant will receive a drink koozie. T-shirts will also be available for purchase.

Preregister at greencountyhumane.org. Registration will also be accepted from 10-11 a.m. at the event.

GCHS is a no-kill shelter that serves Green and Lafayette counties. Last year, it provided homes for 658 animals.

The average cost of care per animal is $300, including food, general care, vaccines, medicine and spay/neutering costs.

Only a portion of this is recouped in adoption fees. Events such as this play a big part in helping cover the remaining costs.
