MONROE - Santa makes his home at the Monroe Public Library during his visits to Monroe. As in the past, the library will create a welcoming area for Santa's receiving line in the lobby which will include a decorated tree.

In order to make Santa's tree look extra-special, the Monroe Public Library is hosting its 13th annual tree-trimming party between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22. Adults are expected to stay with their youngsters and enjoy the fun.

Children will have the opportunity to make an ornament for the tree that decorates Santa's area, and some to take home with them. The ornament crafts this year include Peppermint Mice, Frosted Hearts, Cookie Stars, Candy Cornucopias, Sparkle Stars, and in honor of the first tree-trimming party, Peanut Reindeer. Children may pick up the ornament made for Santa's tree after the holidays.

Children and their families are invited to the Story Corner at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., or 1:30 p.m. when Kris Ault, Youth Services Librarian, and Laura Solawetz, Youth Services Library Specialist, will share stories, songs, and rhymes for the holiday season.

To add to the festivities, cookies and punch will be served throughout the party in the Cookie Corner Cafe. Bakers who would like to donate two or three dozen cookies for the party may pick up a "Cookie Sheet" form at the library. Bakers are asked to drop their cookies off at the library on Thursday or Friday, Nov. 20 or 21.

The Library VolunTEENs, middle and high school student volunteers, will help children make their ornaments and act as greeters. Students presently in sixth grade and up who wish to become an "Elf for a Day" may pick up more information and sign up at the children's room desk. VolunTEENs are asked to arrive at 10:30 a.m. on the day of the tree-trimming party for a brief orientation.

There is no cost for the tree-trimming party and no registration is necessary.
