MONROE - Several activities are being planned to celebrate St. Patrick's Day this month.
The Green County Family YMCA will host a "Run before You Crawl" 5K run/walk on Saturday. The kids' run begins at 8:30 a.m. and the adult 5K run/walk begins at 9 a.m. For more information, visit www.ymcaceltic5k.weebly.com.
The ninth annual Flanagan's Shenanigans Celtic Pub Crawl begins at 1 p.m. Saturday at Friendly Inn. Check-in is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Friendly Inn, 1335 17th St., Monroe. The band Reilly will perform at Suisse Haus from 3 to 7 p.m. Donations of food or pet food will be accepted at check-in. The first 300 people to donate will receive a free gift. Irish dancers and bagpipers will perform throughout the day. Green County EMS and the Tavern League will provide Safe Ride. The Monroe Lions Club is selling raffle tickets for a chance to win cash prizes. Raffle tickets are $10 and can be purchased from Lions Club members, participating Celtic Crawl pubs and Heartland Graphics.
The annual Main Street St. Patrick's Day parade is at 5:17 p.m. March 17 around the Square. The parade is sponsored by Doyle's Irish Pub and Orchid International. Parade royalty includes Queen of the Green Linda Burkhalter, Princess Tara Kammes and Grand Marshal Richard Berry. Join the Monroe Public Library at 4:30 p.m. March 17 to make a St. Patrick's Day hat to wear in the parade.
