SOUTH WAYNE - Twenty-eight Black Hawk high school students advance to the district-level forensics speaking contest to be held on March 29 at University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

They are: Megan Vosberg, demonstration speaking; Savanna Kaster and Bryant Luhman, farrago; Adam Moore, four-minute speaking; Tommy Butts, Mackenzie Hole, Becca Johnson, Derek Vosberg, and Amanda Walker, group interpretive speaking; Hillary Holland, Kelly Metz, and Mackenzie Monson, group interpretive reading.

Wade Wolff, moments in history; Katharine Place, oratory; Adrianna Hromadka and Nicole Kloepfer, play acting; Savannah Ernzen, Jordan Luhman, Samantha Noble, and Tyler Quinn, play acting; Thad Brenum, poetry; Molly Bechtolt and Ou Zhong, prose reading; Christian Krahenbuhl and Michael Wolff, radio speaking; Jorden Rupnow, humorous solo-acting; Stephanie Pickett, serious solo acting; and Fergus Chau, special occasion speaking.

Earlier this season, Black Hawk brought home the first place small-team trophy from the DeForest tournament on Jan. 26.

Making the power round were Noble, who walked away with a finalist medal in four-minute speaking; and Chau, who brought home the first-place trophy in special occasion speaking.

At the Sun Prairie tournament on Feb. 2, Black Hawk team members continued to perform well.

Butts, Hole, Johnson, D. Vosberg, and Walker brought home the third place trophy in group interpretive speaking; and Chau earned another first place trophy in special occasion.

At Lodi on March 1, Black Hawk put six finalists in the power round.

M. Vosberg, Rupnow and J. Luhman earned third-place trophies in demonstration, humorous solo acting and radio, respectively; Chau brought home the second-place trophy and Pickett walked away with the first-place trophy in serious solo acting.

Other forensics team members include Danielle Hagen, prose reading; and Kara Bartels, poetry.

Judging for these contests were Black Hawk alumni Jenny Seffrood, Heidi Rufenacht-Von Kaenel, Brianna Ditzenberger and Amy Brenum; retired head coach Kathleen Vosberg; and former assistant coach Tony Petitjean.

Black Hawk boasts a team of 31 total members - approximately 20 percent of the high school population - despite facing a pending non-existence last season when Black Hawk failed to pass its first attempt at a referendum in April.

Fortunately, supporters of forensics and other extra curricular activities rallied and passed the referendum last June.
