MONROE — Nothing tastes — and sounds — happier than a fresh, squeaky cheese curd.

While Cheese Days wasn’t held this year, the festival board decided to share some happiness by delivering curds and holiday cheer to area residents that could likely use a lift.

Cheese Days volunteers are assembling about 750 “cheesy care packages” for residents, caretakers and staff at Monroe’s assisted living, nursing home and dementia care facilities. In addition to curds from Maple Leaf Cheese Store, recipients will find a few treats and a 2020 Cheese Days button in their gift bag.

Volunteers that helped with the project include Anna Zentner, Lauren Zentner, Delaney Sweeney, Katie Turner, Judy Meier, Kay Argue, Terry Argue, Michael Doyle, Jordan Nordby, Veronica Bruce, and Pat Hamilton, as well as Regez Supply Company, which donated packing boxes.
