BRODHEAD - As a follow-up to the first community-wide organizational meeting of the Lower Sugar River Watershed Association, the group is planning a second public "work session," to be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Brodhead Memorial Public Library, 1207 25th St., Brodhead.

This event will be an opportunity to reconnect with attendees from the first gathering as well as chart the course for the future of the organization. The morning will begin with an overview of what the group has been working on since April's kick-off gathering. Other plans will be discussed for citizen science activities and outreach events. The event will be a forum for organizing working committees and developing a plan of action that can be implemented over the next several years.

The group was recently awarded a River Planning Grant from the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources and the grant will be used to build capacity as a community-driven effort, as well as carry out an initial ecological assessment of the watershed that will enable the group to make recommendations for future projects and management of the watershed's abundant resources.
