MADISON - Two Monroe organists who have also taken on the role of composer will have their compositions featured in an upcoming recital in Madison.
Ann Uresk, organist and director of music at Grace Lutheran Church, and Deborah Krauss Smith, former organist/director of music at St. John's UCC, will perform their own original works for organ as part of a recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church (Good Shepherd Parish), 1130 St. James Court, Madison.
Uresk's piece is a set of variations on the familiar hymn, "My Jesus, I Love Thee," and Krauss Smith will perform her composition titled "Kidbits," a musical collage of nursery rhymes.
Both women and their respective churches are members of the Association of Church Musicians, a Madison-based nonprofit organization that also serves as the umbrella organization for the Madison Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
The free event is open to the public, and a reception will follow. A free-will offering will be accepted for the Organ Scholarship Fund. For more information, visit madisonacm.org/recital.
