JUDA — The winners for “The Class of 1967 — We Remember Our 9 Angels Scholarship” for 2022 have been named. They are Susan Farias, Libby Jordan, and Eliana Riemer. The Honors Program was held at Juda High School on May 25, when each of the three recipients received a $1,000 award.
The Nine Angels Scholarship was established in 2010 by the surviving classmates of the nine young ladies who perished while on their senior class trip, so that they are never forgotten. The scholarship is designed to be perpetual. The nine for whom the scholarship is named include: Sheila Babler, Sandra Goecks, Linda Hartwig, Joyce Kaderly, Linda Moe, Janice Siedschlag, Nancy Siegenthaler, Nelva Smith, and Doreen Williams.
The nine girls died when a Douglas DC-8, on a training flight at the New Orleans International Airport, crashed into the Hilton Hotel, where the girls were staying while on their senior class trip on March 30, 1967.
