MONROE - The Monroe Post Office is hosting a passport fair from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 28, at the post office, 1724 11th St., Monroe. Guests of the event can either apply for passports or learn more about passports and international travel by speaking with one of the agents. To apply for a passport, bring some original (not photocopies) identification items including:
Two identical passport photos of yourself - passport photos are available for a fee.
A valid photo ID - acceptable IDs include state driver's license, government photo ID, state-issued photo ID or an old passport. The ID cannot be expired.
Proof of citizenship. An original or certified birth certificate with an official seal, or original naturalization papers. Hospital birth certificates are not acceptable.
Adult passport (16 and older) costs $100. Minors passport (15 and younger) is $85. Fees must be paid before the application is accepted. Personal checks or money orders are necessary for the State Department fee (no credit cards).
Minors under 15 must be present with both parents and must bring original birth certificates. Minors under 15 may need special permission for international travel. Visit www.travel.state.gov for full details.
