Parks and Recreation offers summer activities

MONROE - The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department has many activities for children this summer.

Kickball, Dodgeball, Gaga Ball and Pool Fun: This class includes a variety of activities for children ages 6-10 to stay active and have fun. It will meet from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays, June 20 through July 25, with no program on July 4, at Recreation Park North Shelter. The cost is $20 for residents and $30 for non-residents.

Summer Olympics and Pool Fun: Children ages 6-10 may join the Summer Olympic Team. Activities include designing a T-shirt for each team. Individual and team competitions will be held followed by a closing ceremony. Each day will be spent with time at the pool and finishing the day playing at Swiss ALPS. It will meet from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays, July 5-26, at Recreation Park North Shelter. The cost is $15 for residents and $25 for non-residents.

Summer Water Fun at the Park and Pool Fun: Bring squirt guns and soakers and let the fun begin with water kickball, water balloons, water sprinkler games and pool fun. Children ages 6-10 will meet from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays, July 6-27, at Recreation Park North Shelter. The cost is $15 for residents and $25 for non-residents.

Summer Volleyball Skills: Students entering third through ninth grades will work on skills and drills for 45 minutes, then have a 45-minute game. They will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays through July 19 at the Northside Elementary School gym. The fee is $20 for residents and $30 for non-residents.

Golf Lessons: The Mike Muranyi Junior Golf Foundation, Monroe Parks and Rec Department and Monroe Country Club have partnered together to provide golf lessons.

• Boys 15-18 years old will meet from 9 to 9:45 a.m.

• Girls of all ages will meet from 12:15 to 1 p.m.

• Boys 5-8 years old will meet from 1 to 1:30 p.m.

• Boys 9-11 years old will meet from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m.

• Boys 12-14 years old will meet from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m.

Register online at www.monroecountryclub.com for the three-days-a-week program. Participants will meet Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, June 21 through July 20. The cost is $75 and includes three-month YMCA and MCC memberships.

Register with Parks and Rec for the one-day-a-week program. Participants will meet Wednesdays only, June 21 through July 19. The cost is $30 for residents and $40 for non-residents and does not include the YMCA and MCC memberships.
