DARLINGTON - The members of Rural Medical Ambulance Service will be hosting an open house and picnic in honor of National EMS Appreciation Week from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. May 20 at RMAS' headquarters, l127 E. Louisa St.

The meal provided at the open house will include burgers, brats, chips and salad. There is no cost for the meal but donations will be accepted. RMAS is currently in the process of raising funds to replace its oldest ambulance, which was built in 2000. Members want to have a new ambulance in service in 2016.

The UW Med Flight Helicopter will be landing near the station to help celebrate. A new ambulance, similar to what RMAS wants to purchase, will be on display for members of the public to tour. Representatives from Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County will be present as well with information and blood pressure checks.

RMAS is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization which currently operates two ambulances and responds to the emergent health care needs of citizens in Lafayette County. RMAS members respond to one emergency call per day in their jurisdiction, which comprises the City and Township of Darlington, the Village and Township of Gratiot, as well as the townships of Willow Springs, Fayette, Lamont, Seymour and Wiota.
