MONROE — The Monroe Arts Center is presenting the Notre Dame Glee Club on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gunderson Stiles Concert Hall.
Founded in 1915, the Notre Dame Glee Club combines the rich traditions of Notre Dame with the highest standards of artistic excellence. Each year the 60-voice chorus presents a wide-ranging repertory in several formal campus and tour concerts, as well as in dozens of informal performances at university events. The Club’s membership is drawn from all courses of study at the university. The concert will include classical a cappella music for the men’s chorus, as well as folk songs, African-American spirituals, barbershop arrangements, and songs of Notre Dame.
Prior to their performance, Monroe’s very own St. Victor School Choir will perform as an opening act. Directed by music teacher Cindy Blanc, the group of singers are in grades 3-6. The choir rehearses during weekly school music classes, but they can be heard singing every week at Mass, in the lunchroom, on the playground, and often when they’re in a moving vehicle. The choir anchored the Children’s Swiss Music Concert on the Martha Bernet Stage during 2022 Cheese Days. Students performed traditional Swiss Volkslied in several regional dialects as well as several novelty songs. The singers present three all-school concerts each year, and they look forward to sharing their musical gifts throughout the community, including at The Monroe Clinic and Pleasant View Nursing Home, and for other local events as invited.
Tickets are available to purchase by going to monroeartscenter.com or calling 608-325-5700.
