Noted author featured at writing workshop

MONROE — Awarding winning author Bonnie Nadzam will present a workshop on writing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 19 at Great Plains Zen Center, W7762 Falk Rd., Monroe.

Participants can expect to finish the workshop with several short pieces that might be lengthened or revised independently, and with new tools and strategies for navigating and working with the obstacles that arise during the writing and creative process. The workshop will include writing assignments, discussion and some Zen meditation and is open to adults and high school students. Attending only the morning or afternoon is acceptable. 

This workshop will be taught be Bonnie Nadzam, an American writer whose work has appeared in Harper’s, Granta, Orion, Iowa Review, Kenyon Review, Epoch and many other journals. Her first novel, “LAMB,” has been translated into several languages and was recipient of the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize, and made into an award-winning independent film. Her second novel, “LIONS,” was a PEN Literary Prize finalist. Her third novel, “31,” is forthcoming. She holds degrees in English Literature and Environmental Studies from Carleton College, an MFA from Arizona State University, and an MA and PhD from the University of Southern California. She is a long-time practitioner of Zen and a student in the White Plum asanga.
