MONROE — The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) for over 40 years has provided support, education, and advocacy for individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses and their family members. Through the local affiliate, NAMI Green County, many have benefited from its presence.
In 2022, NAMI published its first-ever book as a guide to navigating the mental health field. Titled “You Are Not Alone” and authored by Dr. Ken Duckworth, NAMI’s Chief Medical Officer, it is an essential resource for individuals and families seeking expert advice on diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
In anticipation of National Mental Illness Awareness Week, Oct. 1-7, NAMI Green County’s Board of Directors purchased copies of the book as a gift for its affiliate members. Members, in turn, were given an option to “pay it forward” by having their copy donated to an area library so more people can access this important resource.
As a result, a total of six copies of the book have been provided to area libraries in Monroe, New Glarus, Brodhead, Albany, Monticello, and Darlington. Copies have also been presented to the office of the Substance Recovery and Mental Health Wellness Navigator at Green County Human Services.
For those with any questions or concerns regarding their mental health or that of a loved one, “You Are Not Alone” is a resource available now at these area locations.
