MTG presents ‘Disney Descendants, the Musical’ for two June weekends

Contemporary new musical features the children of Disney’s heroes and villains

MONROE — The Monroe Theatre Guild announced “Disney Descendants, the Musical” is coming to the MTG Colony Brands Stage with six performances over two weekends in June as a part of the Colony Brands performance series. The cast includes 40 local actors young and old.

The first weekend of performances will be June 21-23, and the second a week later, June 28-30. Tickets are on sale now at monroetheatre.com, and at the MTG ticket window Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or by calling 608-325-1111.

Based on the popular Disney Channel Original Movies, Disney’s Descendants: The Musical is a brand-new musical jam-packed with comedy, adventure, Disney characters, and hit songs from the films.

Twenty years after Belle and Beast marry and become king and queen, they establish the United States of Auradon, a prosperous new nation. The wicked Disney villains have been banished to the Isle of the Lost where their evil magic does not work. Their teenage children have never ventured off the island and have been raised to be as evil and devious as their parents.

When the four troublemakers, Carlos, son of Cruella De Vil; Jay, son of Jafar; Evie, daughter of the Evil Queen; and Mal, daughter of Maleficent are invited to attend prep school in Auradon, alongside the children of beloved Disney heroes, they have difficult choices to make. As these sons and daughters of evil meet the children of goodness, the story incorporates empowering themes about self-confidence, finding the beauty within, freedom of choice, personal responsibility, teamwork, justice and empathy.
