MONROE - The Green County Sheriff's Department invites all individuals interested in recreational all-terrain vehicle riding to enroll in its ATV safety course.
Department of Natural Resources-certified ATV safety instructors will teach the class at the Pleasant View complex. Students must attend both days of instruction. Class times are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 12, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 13.
Advance registration is required by contacting Lt. Dick Wyttenbach at 328-9617. Class size is limited.
Participants must be at least 11 years old (age 12 by Dec. 31). There is no maximum age, and parents are encouraged to enroll and participate.
The course fee is $10, which covers all necessary materials.
Students successfully completing the course will receive an ATV safety certificate.
Those born after Jan. 1, 1988 are required to have a safety certificate to ride on public lands in Wisconsin.
Classes will cover ATV safety features, pre-ride inspection, basic riding skills, protective gear, rules and regulations, ethics, responsibility and handling outdoor emergencies.
Students with special needs should contact the instructor in advance to request special accommodations.
