MONROE - The Monroe High School Vocal Music Department will present a holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, in the MHS Performing Arts Center. Performing groups will include the barbershop chorus, show choir, camerata, canzona, fair maidens, combined madrigals, chamber choir, acappella choir, concert 9, concert 10, and combined choirs.
Tickets for the concert are $3 for adults and $2 for students and senior citizens.
Tickets for the 31st annual madrigal dinner will be on sale for $20 each following the concert. The dinners are at 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, at the Ludlow Mansion in Monroe. Tickets for the dinner can be purchased by calling and leaving a message with Judy Bennett at 328-7325.
The show choir will sing "Baby, It's Cold Outside" with choreography by Emily Treuthardt assisted by Jenni Buol.
The barbershop chorus will sing "Jingle Bells."
The chamber choir sings "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," "White Christmas" with soloists Jordan Gochring and Eric Grau, and "The Christmas Song" with soloists Mack Brunker and Morgan Boeck.
Concert 9 sings "Deck the Halls," "The First Noel/Pachelbels' Canon" and "Jingle Bell Rock." Emily Treuthardt is the teacher's assistant and Caroline Tindle is the accompanist.
The camerata performs "Nowell Canon" incorporating "The First Noel" and a "Canon" by Lowell Mason, arrangement and new words by Patrick Liebergen.
Fair Maidens will sing a traditional English carol "Sussex Carol," the canzona sings "Throw Open Your Shutters!" and the combined choirs sing "Away in a Manger."
Concert 10 will perform "Do You Hear What I Hear" with solists Kylee Ritschard and Rebecca Flannery; "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" with soloist Lizzie Siedschlag and "Winter Carol" with violin accompaniment by Aaron Peterson. Teacher's assistant is Sean Jorgenson.
Acappella will perform "Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind," "The Bells," "I'll Be Home For Christmas," and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." Teacher's assistant is Jessica Hughes.
The combined choirs along with audience participation will sing "Hallelujah!" from Handel's "Messiah" with John Daane, accompanist.
