MONROE - Monroe High School is sponsoring its biannual Fine Arts Festival Thursday and Friday.
This year's theme is "The heartbeat of MHS."
In this event, students can participate during the school day in hands-on activities, lectures and performances presented by master artists, craftsmen, musicians, poets, storytellers, actors and authors. These events offer an opportunity for the students to explore arts and cultures from across the state, the country and the world. The opportunities include participating in an African-inspired drum ensemble, pottery demonstrations, the Wisconsin Foodie, poet laureate, published novelist, composer, film maker, acting workshops, hands on workshops, beekeeping presentations and more.
The community is invited to attend any or all of the public events Thursday at Monroe High School in the M-Room and the Performing Arts Center: There will be 11 PAC events offered.
The MHS Spring Arts Show will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday. This will highlight the seniors and many of the school's artists.
The Empty Bowl Dinner will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday. This is a fundraiser for the local food pantry. Each person will pick out a handmade bowl crafted by high school pottery students and staff to take home and will be treated to a soup dinner provided by five local restaurants.
The high school Arts and Academic Awards Night will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. This is sponsored by the Monroe Arts and Academic Booster Club and highlights outstanding students in each department at the high school. Punch and cookies will be served after the awards presentation.
"One Act Play," directed by senior Nick Fenn, will be from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. Thursday. This is a play within a play by playwright Tom Stoppard, who also wrote "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead," and "Travesties." The cost for the performance will be free-will donations.
