Friends and family of Mark “Denim” Mueller stopped by the Green County Family YMCA on Sunday, Feb. 12, for the third annual Mark Mueller Scholarship Fund Event. Mueller was a 2001 Monroe graduate that died unexpectedly in college in 2003. People of all ages tried their hand at kicking, punting and throwing footballs on the frozen tundra of the YMCA’s football field. About 80 people ages 3-65 competed. Winners in various age categories won items such as a free sandwich, a vehicle detail, Monroe money and scholarships to play youth sports.

Volunteers and organizers took donations, kept track of distances, and fed others with donated food, while several Monroe High School football players shagged balls.

Donations are still rolling in, and co-organizer Eric Jubeck said the amount should allow the fund to divvy up a similar amount of scholarship money as last year, which was about $7,000 to Monroe High School graduates. A silent auction for a host of other items is available online at https://markmuellerscholarshipfund.betterworld.org/auctions/mark-mueller-scholarship-fund.
