Local students to take part in music festival competition

ALBANY - Students from area schools will participate in a Wisconsin School Music Association-sanctioned District Solo and Ensemble Music Festival from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 17 at Albany High School.

During the festival, which is free and open to the public, students will perform vocal and instrumental solos, duets, trios and small ensembles before an adjudicator.

WSMA music festivals annually attract thousands of students from middle, junior high and high schools throughout Wisconsin. A number of area schools will be participating, including Albany Community Middle School, Albany High School, Argyle High School, Argyle Middle School, Barneveld High School, Barneveld Middle School, Black Hawk High School, Black Hawk Middle School, Juda High School, Juda Middle School, Monticello High School, Monticello Middle School, Pecatonica High School and Pecatonica Middle School. Rachel Heinschel, music director from Albany High School, will serve as the festival manager.

WSMA provides quality music education experiences to over 100,000 students annually.

Festivals provide students with an opportunity to enrich their musical abilities and understandings as they perform and receive feedback from qualified adjudicators and as they observe and listen to the performances of their peers.
