FREEPORT — Highland Community College is hosting multiple job fairs in the coming weeks. Attendees will need to register for the free event. The school will not have computers available on campus for use during the pre-job fair, post-job fair and Virtual Job Fair. The Highland Career Services department is hosting a pre-job fair from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 10; a virtual job fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 17; and a post-job fair on Nov. 19, 3 to 5 p.m. “A majority of employers are conducting interviews through some-sort of online format. I hope that this new format will help attendees feel more comfortable interviewing virtually for a job, and allow them to make gainful connections with local employers,” explained Antony Musso, Career Services Coordinator. To help prepare attendees for the new virtual format, Highland Career Services will host a pre-job fair retreat from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 10. Topics include how to write cover letters, resume and give a personal presentation. After the main event, a postjob fair retreat will allow attendees to look at social media ethics and interviewing skills from 3-5 p.m. on Nov. 19. “This virtual format for job fairs may be here to stay,” said Musso. “Around 60% of career centers say that they expect virtual fairs and events to become an accepted standard practice moving forward.” A limited number of computers are available during the virtual job fair on the second floor of the Student/ Conference Center (building H), 2998 W. Pearl City Rd., Freeport, IL. Limited seating is available for the pre-and post-job fair retreats. While on campus, people must not have COVID-19 symptoms, wear a mask, practice social distancing and use hand sanitizer.
Attendees must register for the job fair and/or the retreat by emailing or contacting Anthony Musso at anthony. musso@highland.edu or 815599-3597.
