newspaper brief

MONROE — The Wisconsin Historical Society’s “History Makers Tour” is taking the show on the road to communities all over the state with exhibits, displays, art installations and public programs. With Cheese being vital to Green County’s past, present and future, the March 28 event will feature some of the area’s local “history makers” that have helped shaped the industry.

The event will be from 6-7:30 p.m. at Blackhawk Technical College, 210 4th Avenue, Monroe. There will be cheese samples available.

Guest panelists and factory affiliations include Jeff Wideman, Maple Leaf Cheese; Silvan Blum, Deppeler Cheese; Steve Stettler, Decatur Dairy; Gary Grossen, Babcock Hall Dairy; and Myron Olson, Chalet Cheese. National Historic Cheesemaking Center’s (NHCC) Virgil Leopold will serve as moderator.

Panelists will be asked many questions, including what is their favorite cheese.

“History Makers” is presented by Wisconsin Historical Society and Culver’s, with local partners NHCC and Green County Tourism. For more information, go to wisconsinhistory.org. The “History Makers Tour” is made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
