DARLINGTON - Fourth-grade students and teachers from 12 different school districts from the surrounding area will travel to Highway Dairy Farms LLC May 10 for the sixth annual Lafayette County Day at the Dairy. The day is being sponsored by a group of local dairy producers to provide an educational experience about dairy farming in Lafayette County. These farms include Cottonwood Dairy LLC; Darlington Ridge Farms LLC; Highway Dairy Farms LLC; and Redrock-View Farms. Additional local sponsors have been secured to pay for educational material, lunch and transportation expenses.

Students will participate in a mock milking station, feed a calf and see what life is like every day on a Wisconsin dairy farm. A lunch consisting of pizza, milk and apple slices will be provided, as well as a sampling of other dairy products.

The purpose is to help all students gain a better understanding of where food comes from and how agriculture impacts the state of Wisconsin and Lafayette County. The four dairies involved are committed to educating youth about the dairy industry.
