Emergency Night Out set

DARLINGTON - Darlington area police, fire and EMS organizations will be hosting the annual Emergency Night Out from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Darlington Festival Grounds on Main Street.

The event offers area residents the opportunity to visit with emergency responders, tour their vehicles, inspect their equipment and learn more about local emergency response capabilities. Children can sit in and explore police cars, fire trucks and ambulances, all in one location at this family-friendly event.

After touring the grounds, families and community members are encouraged to join emergency responders in the annual 5K Glow Run/Walk, which begins at 7 p.m. The run/walk is conducted after dark on the walking trail and on city streets with emergency vehicles and black lighting marking the path. There is no need to pre-register. Participants are asked to bring a shirt of their own choosing that can be decorated in the black-lit tent before the walk. There will be black-light markers and paint available.

The Emergency Night Out is a free event, but participation in the 5K run/walk costs $15 per adult and $10 per child. All proceeds from the run/walk benefit the Darlington Police Department's K-9 Unit, which is operated solely on donations, as no tax dollars are allocated for its maintenance. Anyone with questions about the event may call Officer Zach Keister at 608-776-4982.
