DARLINGTON — On May 9, Dr. Matthew Solverson was presented with the RWHC Rural Ambassador Award. RWHC has established the Rural Health Ambassador Award to recognize employees at Critical Access Hospitals throughout the entire state of Wisconsin who have gone above the call of duty in promoting their respective organizations and made significant contributions to rural health care in general.

Dr. Solverson has a strong passion for rural medicine, providing rural healthcare to our community for nearly 18 years.

“Dr. Solverson provides great medical leadership and mentoring to our young staff as they are trying to navigate the healthcare landscape,” said Kathy Kuepers, Chief Executive Officer, “Dr. Solverson appreciates the unique aspects and benefits of rural medicine. He also enjoys the trusting relationship he has built with his patient and their families throughout his time here at MHLC.”

Incorporated in 1979 as the Rural Wisconsin Hospital Cooperative, RWHC has received national recognition as one of the country’s earliest and most successful models for networking among rural hospitals.

Presently, the work continues as the renamed Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative responds to the needs of its diverse members and their communities. RWHC serves as a catalyst for statewide collaboration and a progressive, creative force on behalf of all rural health constituencies. Owned by non-profit, rural acute, general medical-surgical hospitals, RWHC’s charge is twofold: advocacy for rural health at the State and Federal levels and shared service development for member hospitals as well as external customers.

Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County is an active member of RWHC.
