MONROE - On Sunday, St. John's United Church of Christ, in collaboration with other local churches and the World Church Service, will host the second annual Monroe CROP Hunger Walk starting at 1 p.m.

Participants can choose either the 2.5- or the 5-mile routes. Proceeds from the walk will go to local food pantries and to hungry families around the globe. Youth groups of all kinds, from churches, schools, scouts, 4H, FFA or any others, are invited to participate in a food sculpture contest taking place that day.

For the contest, youth groups build sculptures out of non-perishable food items in designated outdoor spaces. Sculptures can be planned and non-perishable food items collected any time prior, but the actual construction of the sculptures will take place that morning. A panel of local art teachers will judge the sculptures prior to the walk and the winning teams will receive prizes. After the contest, food items from the sculptures will be contributed to local food pantries.

Youth groups can contact Susan Andersen at 847-951-8472 or Janelle Massey at 608-214-6789 to get more information and an entry form. Completed entry forms must be submitted by Friday.
