Corn, soybean seminar to be held on Monday

MONROE - A half-day seminar covering advanced nutrient management and tillage for corn and soybeans will meet from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27 at the Green County Justice Center multi-purpose rooms, 2841 6th St.

The seminar is free and open to area producers, agronomists and other agriculture professionals.

The featured speakers and topics include Dr. Carrie Laboski, University of Wisconsin soil fertility specialist, who will discuss how plant populations, yield and hybrid selection impacts nitrogen fertilizer needs for corn. Brain Hillers, NRCS area conservationist, will discuss the use of vertical tillage in cropping systems. Ted Baye, UW-Extension crops agent will also be at the program to discuss new UW guidelines for sulfur applications to alfalfa.

UW-Extension and the Land and Water departments in Green and Lafayette counties are sponsoring the meeting. Certified crop advisors will be eligible to receive 2.5 continuing education credits for attending the seminar.
