MONROE - The Green County Department of Land Conservation and Natural Resources Conservation Service will be accepting applications for soil conservation and water quality practices.
Practices approved for the Department of Land Conservation are paid on a 70 percent cost-share per practice basis. The exception to this rule is for nutrient management. This practice is paid on a flat rate of $28 per acre. The signup will be held from November 3 until December 31.
Practices approved for the Natural Resources Conservation Service are paid on a flat rate per practice basis. Farmers are encouraged to sign up for Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plans (CNMP) through this program. This practice incorporates the following elements: (1) manure and wastewater handling and storage, (2) land treatment practices, (3) feed management, (4) nutrient management, and (5) record keeping. The signup is ongoing, and an ending date will be posted.
A few examples of practices that are offered through both programs are: well decommissioning, grassed waterways, manure storage, barnyard runoff control systems, stream bank improvement, cattle and equipment crossings, roof gutters, and diversions.
