concerts on the square

MONROE — Cheesy stuff. A red, white, and blue salute. “Game On” with Main-opoly. And that’s just intermission. Main Street Monroe is back with a top-notch lineup of talent for the 2021 Concerts on the Square Summer Block Party series starting on July 16.

Friday, July 16: Wheelhouse kicks things off with an energy and attitude unique to themselves. Nationally touring Americana and bluegrass band hailing from Madison, with five records released and a thousand shows performed in the past six years. Wheelhouse features three and four part harmonies, fiddle and guitar leads and driving rhythm of the upright bass. Wait ’til you hear their cover of Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb. Bring your chairs and blankets, and get ready for Frank Busch and friends to kick things off at 6:30 p.m.

Friday, July 30: Random Maxx, Milwaukee’s best cover band, will be bringing the sounds of big acts like Meghan Trainor, Tom Petty, Neon Trees, Elvis Presley, and more to the downtown Square. Random Maxx is known for big guitars, big harmonies, and big hooks. This band is a twelve-time returning artist at Summerfest. The show starts at 6:30 PM.

Saturday, August 21: Bring your dancing shoes — Main Street is pulling out all the stops with a special afternoon-into-evening show on stage on the north side of the Historic Green County Courthouse. The lineup features three separate acts including polkas and accordions, doo wop, and Swedish disco tunes from an ABBA tribute band. On the side: fun and games for kids, dance with the Dairy Queens, and other tasty details still being worked out. Tentative start time is around 2 p.m. and the music won’t stop until nearly 10 p.m.

Friday, September 17: Main Street’s final big show of the season is a party with local favorite The Jimmys.  They’ve been voted 2020 Best of Madison Winner for Best Local Blues Band and Best Local R&B Band. These guys will bring down the house with band namesake Jimmy Voegeli on keys and vocals, backed up by Perry Weber on guitar, Johnny Wartenweiler on bass, Chris Sandoval on drums, and a red hot horn section with Pete Ross, Mike Boman, and Joe Goltz. The party starts at 6:30 p.m.

Main Street Monroe’s Concert series is generously underwritten by Colony Brands. A variety of food booths will be available. All shows feature the new larger Main Street Beer Garden and second beer station, plus extended serving hours. Intermission entertainment and other activities are again funded through the John and Katie Baumann Inspiration Project.
