MONROE - The Monroe City Band will present a free public concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Monroe United Methodist Church. This concert follows a similar concert given for Pleasant View Nursing Home residents, staff and their families.
The concert will include "First Noel," as arranged by Jeff Simmons; "Prelude, Siciliano and Rondo," by Malcolm Arnold, arranged by John P. Paynter; "Merry Christmas, Everyone," a sing-a-long, by Steven Reineke; "The Polar Express," a medley, by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard, arranged by Jerry Brubaker; "Second Suite for Military Band in F Major," by Gustav Holst; A "Canadian Brass Christmas Suite," a medley, adapted for band by Calvin Custer; and "Jester Hairstone Calypso Christmas," arranged by Mervin Whitcomb.
Also to be performed are "A Celebration of Spirituals," arranged by Warren Barker; "Christmas Music for Winds," adapted and arranged by John Cacavas; "Christmas Time with Charlie Brown," arranged by John Moss; "Fanfare and Procession on an Old English Carol," by Robert W. Smith; "Westminster Carol," arranged by James L. Hosay; and "Worldwide Yuletide," by Chuck Elledge.
Donations of nonperishable food items will be collected for the Green County Interchurch Food Pantry. A social time will follow the concert for audience and band members. The Rev. Mary Gafner will serve as announcer for the concert. Randy Schneeberger is director of the Monroe City Band.
