Black Hawk FFA scores honors

SOUTH WAYNE — The Black Hawk FFA Chapter was named the state winning FFA Milk Quality and Products Career Development Event Team. Team members include: Kaylee Marty, Emily Triem, Delaney Holland, Bailey Hagen. Travis Meyers and Ray Mesendike are their advisors. Kaylee Marty of Black Hawk FFA was the top individual. 

Participants taste milk samples for flavor, identify 14 different types of cheese, score the degree of sediment on milk pads according to the USDA sediment standards for milk and milk products and evaluate milk samples using the California Mastitis Test. In addition to rating the quality of the milk, participants evaluate five milker part units and then score the number and severity of defects. They also complete a 50- question written exam on milk production and marketing. 

The Team will now compete for plaques and individual medals at the National FFA Milk Quality and Products Career Development Event to be held in October in Indianapolis, Indiana during the 95th National FFA Convention. The Milk Quality and Products Career Development Event is Sponsored at the state level by Wisconsin FFA Foundation Annual Fund. On the National level this event is sponsored by Culver’s. 

The Black Hawk FFA Chapter received the State FFA Degree at the 92nd State FFA Convention Online Experience. Members include Jexen Stietz, son of Summer and Billy Stietz; Aleta Broge, daughter of Toni Broge; Bailey Butler, daughter of Angie and Scott Butler; Delaney Holland, daughter of Kerry and Jenny Holland; Erika Schultz, daughter of Brain and Jill Schultz; Emily Triem, daughter of Sean and Jayne Triem; Cody Wick, son of Chuck and Marry Nye; Gabe Tuescher, son of Tony and Heidi Tuescher; Bailey Hagen, daughter of Lisa and Toby Hagen, Spence Seffrood, son of Sandy and Stewart Seffrood. 

The State FFA Degree is the highest degree that an FFA member can earn on the state level. To earn this degree, a member has to have earned both their Greenhand and Chapter Degrees.

Earning the State FFA Degree is an honor and great accomplishment for those that have set their goals to reach this level of achievement in the FFA Organization.
