MONROE - The Behring Senior Center has several outings and two classes planned for August and September.
Bridget's Annual Golf Outing will start at 9 a.m. Aug. 23 at Bass Creek Golf Course in Footville. Lunch and beverages will be in the Club House afterward. The cost is $17 for ages 62 and up and $20 for 61 and under, and it includes nine holes of golf with a cart. This year will include prizes, different rules and a different course. Everyone will play their own game (not a scramble or best ball). Each group will get one yellow ball that will rotate among team members, changing after each hole. The groups that finish without losing the yellow ball will go into a drawing for a prize. The top two lowest scores win a prize; there are prizes for longest drive, closest to the pin and longest putt. Those who do not have a partner or foursome will be matched up with a group.
A PowerPoint Computer Class will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Behring Senior Center Computer Lab for a cost of $12. Learn how to insert pictures, add color, borders and transitions to create photos or a slide show. This is an introductory class; no knowledge of PowerPoint is necessary.
Men's Day Outing will start at 11 a.m. Aug. 24 at Monroe Clinic. Participants will meet at the Monroe Clinic Cafe for lunch at 11 a.m., and then move to the Clinic Cafe Meeting Room at noon for a presentation from Dr. Moore on men's prostate health. The Monroe Clinic Cafe is located on the second floor of the new hospital. Participants are responsible for transportation and lunch.
A Silk Scarf Dyeing Class will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Behring Senior Center for a cost of $20, which includes all supplies. Participants will be making dyed silk scarfs using tissue paper as the base of the dye colors. These scarves make great gifts for family and friends. The project is good for beginners.
Ladies' Day Out will begin with lunch at noon Aug. 30 at the Laughing Trout Restaurant in Monroe, followed by a trip to Hawk's Mill Winery, W8170 Pilz Road, Browntown, for wine tasting. Hawk's Mill Winery is about 9 miles west of Monroe. Wine tasting is available for a cost of $3 and is payable at the winery. Transportation, lunch and wine tasting costs are the responsibility of the participants.
"Why We Love the Packers," a Green Bay Packers presentation by Jim Rice, will be at 3 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Behring Senior Center. Rice is a former history teacher, school principal and school superintendent and has written three books on football history. During the free event, Rice will share his photographs of games, old football cards, newspapers and magazines while discussing the history of the Green Bay Packers.
"The Original" Brat Bash will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or until sold out Sept. 8 at the Behring Senior Center, offering brats prepared by the staff and senior volunteers. Enter the drive-through using the east parking lot entrance to place orders. For large orders, call 608-325-3173 ahead of time and they will be prepared for pickup. A walk-up tent also will be available on the west side. These purchases help the Behring Senior Center subsidize classes, educational programs, special events and entertainment for area seniors. The costs are $5 for a brat, chips and soda or $3 for just a brat. The event will be held regardless of weather. Volunteers and pop and water donations are needed.
Behring Senior Center events and classes are available to anyone 55 years of age or older. Call 608-325-3173 to register for all events and classes. All classes remain open until filled.
