Walk for cystic fibrosis is May 19

MONROE - The sixth annual Great Strides Cystic Fibrosis Walk will take place Saturday, May 19 at Twining Park. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the 1.2-mile walk kicks off at 11 a.m. Great Strides is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's largest fund-raising event and takes place each May, which is Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month.

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that impairs normal respiratory and digestive functions, making breathing and eating a challenge.

"We are looking forward to our sixth Great Strides Walk in Monroe. We continue to work hard to raise funds to help CF Research," said Rena Welty, Monroe Great Strides Walk chairman and mother of a child with CF. "The FDA was able to approve a new CF drug this year all because of the funds generated at events like this one. We encourage everyone to participate and donate what they can."

All donations are used efficiently and effectively; nearly 90 percent of every dollar of revenue goes to support CF research, medical and education programs. Donations are tax-deductible.

To sign up to walk or donate, visit www.cff.org/great_strides. Donation can be made by sending a check, payable to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, to Welty, 2420 12th St., Monroe, WI 53566. More information is available by contact Welt at (608) 289-7135 or monroegreatstrides@yahoo.com.
