Monroe

Free family movie night is Saturday

MONROE - The Monroe United Methodist Church will host a community-wide free family movie night Saturday, March 3, at the church, 2227 4th St.

The church will be showing "Mr. Popper's Penguins," and doors open at 7 p.m.

Popcorn and juice will be provided. Kids can wear their pajamas and adults can bring their lawn chairs. More information is available by calling (608) 325-6700 or emailing monroeumc@tds.net.

Dodgeville

Group to honor Saint Piran

DODGEVILLE - Members and friends of the Southwest Wisconsin Cornish Society will honor St. Piran, the Patron Saint of Tinners, on Sunday, March 4 at Sam and Maddie's, 3656 Wisconsin 23.

St. Piran, while doing mission working in Ireland, was attacked by enemies and thrown over a cliff with a millstone tied around his neck. He floated to the surface and landed on the Cornish shore where he established an oratory, preached and converted many to Christianity.

Following lunch at 12:30 p.m., Jim Ronnerud, Darlington, will speak on Jenkynsville, an almost ghost like village in Lafayette County, located on County H.

Orangeville

Soup-Spuds-Song slated for Sunday

ORANGEVILLE - Soup-Spuds-Song will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at the Orangeville United Methodist Church, 111 S. East St.

A variety of soups and baked potatoes with toppings will be served, along with songs, by cast members of AIDA. Prices are $6 for adults and $4 for kids.

Monticello

Garden Club to meet on Thursday

MONTICELLO - The public is invited to attend a meeting of the Green County Garden Club at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at the Zwingli Church, 416 E. Lake Ave.

Mike Davis, master gardener, will demonstrate sharpening methods for garden tools. Garden Club members will also have a "show and tell" about their favorite, can't-be-without garden tools in addition to sharing gardening tips.
