LA CROSSE - Albany students Nathaniel Ross and Brandon Janes attended the FBLA State Leadership Conference April 9-10 at the La Crosse Center.
The opening ceremony Monday morning featured keynote speaker Harriet Turk. Monday afternoon both students toured the La Crosse area. Ross visited the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Janes toured LB White, a global manufacturer of heating systems for pig buildings, poultry houses, greenhouses, tent spaces and industrial work sites.
During the evening, the students competed in various competitive events. Janes competed in the Web 2.0 open event and Ross competed in Introduction to Parliamentary Procedures with the hopes of placing in the top four and qualifying for nationals.
Tuesday morning included the voting session as Ross and Janes represented Albany High School as voting delegates. They voted for candidates for the 2018-19 state FBLA officer positions. The morning session included a UW-La Crosse workshop focused on prepping for life as a college student. The students also visited the Future Fair to ask questions and get more information about area colleges and universities.
Tuesday night, the results were in, and Ross placed fourth in his event. This qualifies him for the national competition in Baltimore in June. Ross is the first Albany FBLA member ever to qualify for nationals.
