MONROE — AFS students from France, Estonia, and Austria spoke to the Sons of Norway on April 13. Each had pictures from their home land and showed them using the technology at the Monroe Fire Department.

Maire is originally from Toulouse, in southern France, though her parents recently moved to northern France. Eloise’s English is excellent and she only learned to speak English after she arrived in America. In France, being bi-lingual is prestige.

Liilia’s country is Estonia, which borders Russia. Skype started in Estonia. Her country is green and tries not to use plastic bags, cups, and forks. Rivers provide energy. Forests are protected. Hunting and guns are illegal.

Krissy learned to ski at age 3 in Austria. Though she stands 6-foot, 3-inches tall, her parents are taller than she is. She speaks four languages fluently. Back home, teachers are strict, she said.

Sons of Norway promotes the culture of Norway and is interested in culture of countries around the world. Member Jan Johnson is also an AFS board member and arranges presentations. Sons of Norway is proud to support school fees for AFS.
