MONROE - The 69th annual Aebly reunion - descendants of the Henry and Columbina (Altmann) Aebly family - was held on Aug. 15 at Northeast Park.
Hosts were members of the late Frank and Rose (Aebly) Bloom family, with Duane and Beth (Bloom) Kundert of Blanchardville, Terry and Reta Yeazel of Sun Prairie, Dean and Chris (Yeazel) Jorgenson, South Wayne, and Marcia (Yeazel) Swiggum of Wiota.
72 people attended from Blanchardville, DePere, East Troy, Janesville, Madison, Albany, Oconomowoc, South Wayne, Sun Prairie, Monticello, Milwaukee, Monroe and Wiota, and from Coal Valley, Ill., and Phoenix, Ariz.
There were no new births to report and only one wedding. Laura Schmerse and Daniel Mays of Minneapolis, Minn., were married in a beach wedding near Cancun, Mexico Feb. 26. Parents are David and Linda Schmerse of Coal Valley, and grandparents are Marvin and Ruth (Meyers) Schmerse of Janesville. One death was reported, Marian (Kubly) Sacker, who died Oct. 28, 2009.
The oldest woman attending was Leona Kubly, Monroe, 92, and oldest man attending was Marvin Schmerse, Janesville, 90.
The youngest girl was Addison Kubly, 4, daughter of Tim and Jennifer Kubly, Oconomowoc, and the youngest boy was Kyle Krebs, 11, son of Matt and Rita Krebs, Monroe
Gary and Valerie Aebly, Monroe, came the shortest distance, and Jane Gempeler of Phoenix, Ariz. traveled the longest distance.
Several birthdays were announced: Helen Kubly, New Glarus Home, was 90 July 8, Marvin Schmerse, Janesville, was 90 July 4, and Ruth Schmerse, Janesville turned 85. Other special birthdays, are Duane Kubly and Jim Sacker, both of Monroe, and Linda Schmerse, Coal Valley, all will be 60 this year, and Mark Dwyer, Albany, 50. Not attending but also celebrating a special birthday was Donald Schmerse of Waxahachie, Texas, 60, and Mike Haas, Reno, Nev., and Tracy (Paterson) Judy, Cottonwood, Calif., 50.
Special wedding anniversaries are: Dean and Chris Jorgenson, South Wayne, 35 years and Gary and Valerie Aebly, Monroe, who will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary Aug. 30.
Beth (Bloom) Kundert and Lois (Aebly) Kaster were presented with a free copy of their own cookbook in appreciation of all their hard work in putting the Aebly Family Cookbook together. The book included an inscription written inside that said "Thanks for your dedication and hard work in putting this cookbook together. It is something we will all cherish for generations to come." They also received a gift card to the Chalet Landhaus in New Glarus.
There was no special door prize this year, as everyone was anxious to receive the cookbooks that they ordered.
The next reunion will be Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011 at Monticello. It will be the 70th annual and some special events are being planned for this day.
