I submitted my name to the Nominating Committee of the Green County Humane Society to be considered for a place on the ballot for the elections that are happening at 6 p.m. May 7 at the Ludlow Mansion (at the Humane Society's annual meeting). I am a certified dog trainer with six years experience in training dogs and dog behavior. I am co-owner of JTK Dog Obedience. We teach dog obedience classes here in Monroe, as well as volunteer our time to lead the 4-H dog project for Green County, which involves working with the children and their dogs.
I am the chair of the Outdoor Adoptions Committee, a member of the Policies and Procedures Committee, and a member of the Aggressive Dog Policy Task Force, all for the Green County Humane Society. These committees have involved numerous hours of volunteer work. In the past year and a half, I have volunteered hundreds of hours for GCHS, at events, on committees and at the shelter. I have donated my knowledge and expertise in animal behavior by working with numerous dogs at the shelter. I have attended a majority of the board meetings, and take a great interest in what happens to the animals.
Without any explanation, I was denied a chance to be placed on the ballot for elections in May. Two of the three people on the Nominating Committee are up for re-election this year. Those two should have been required to abstain from voting, or remove themselves from the committee because of a conflict of interest.
Since my rejection e-mail stated that the committee did not approve my request to be placed on the ballot, obviously they did not abstain or remove themselves. If you believe this is unfair, and that I should get a chance at running for the board, please contact the shelter (608-325-9600) to sign a petition. If I receive 20 signatures of members, the board is required to put me on the ballot.
If you agree that I would be an asset to the GCHS board, come to the annual meeting and vote for me.
