From Bobbie Bernet and Diana Oostdik, co-chairs Monroe Arts Center Holiday Silent Auction

To the editor:

A big thank you to everyone who helped to make the 2012 Holiday Silent Auction at the Monroe Arts Center a success. We were delighted by the generosity of the donors of more than 250 items for the auction, as well as the generosity of those who purchased the items.

We would also like to thank our wonderful auction committee: Sue Barrett, Eunice Brennan, Kathy Dreikosen, Rosemary Forcade, Audrey Hein, Karen Hogan, Vicki Ingwell, Chris Knuteson, Lynn Lokken, Gary Neuenschwander, Jane Olson, Mary K. Schmid, Jane Swiggum, Jesse Wellington and Kris Winkler. Many other volunteers helped with the auction, and their efforts are very much appreciated.

The MAC auction has become a community tradition in its 15 years, and it is not only an important fundraiser for the arts center, but it also helps bring people into the arts center who might not have already been familiar with it. The Monroe Arts Center was an extremely busy place recently. In addition to the Holiday Silent Auction, there was a gallery opening showcasing works by area artists; a concert by the Canadian trio "The Good Lovelies;" two nights of "Gloria, the Christmas Angel," directed by Judy Knudtson and starring many, many local children, which played to a full house both nights; and a Christmas concert headlined by Tracy Bristow the last night of the auction.

How fortunate we are to have such amazing talent in our community and an outstanding arts center like MAC to bring it all together. Special thanks to the staff at the Monroe Arts Center. Their leadership continues to enrich the life of our community as they showcase an amazing variety of artists and performers throughout the year.
