This past summer, Honey Creek Skatepark was expanded with the two large pieces of equipment in the PHASE II layout of the park. This expansion was partially funded by a grant that Monroe Area Skate Enthusiasts (MASE) received from the Clifford and Dorothy Reasa Charitable Fund of the Monroe Fund, a component of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, Inc.The Monroe Fund listened to the youth of the area and showed its support to assist in funding a facility for the fastest-growing sport in America.

The Honey Creek Skatepark is a place where a person can demonstrate and grow with their interest in an extreme Ssport. This is a sport that a person can, as an individual, develop themselves at their own pace and talent not needing a team or coaches. The skatepark definitely helps toward curbing the growing problem of obesity facing our youth.

With this new equipment, Honey Creek Skatepark became a focal point for many youth. In the evenings and on weekends especially, you could see 10 to 30 youth there skating and hanging out. The youth are not just from Monroe, but also from neighboring towns. It also brings out the good side of the teenagers by willing to help the younger skaters to learn to skate and to take turns using the equipment.

Thank you Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, Inc., for helping to make Monroe a better place for the youth of the area.
